Titleist Performance Institute Long Term Athletic Development

Pine Meadow Golf Club has long been recognized as a “hot bed” for the development of junior golfers in Illinois. Last season Pine Meadow greatly enhanced this reputation by becoming one of the first in the United States to offer a Level 3 Titleist Performance Institute Long Term Athletic Development Program. This program is designed to instruct juniors to become both sound athletes and skilled golfers.

TPI deviates from traditional methods of teaching golf to youngsters, in which children spend hours at the driving range. Instead, this program is based on the principles of long-term athlete development – rooted in understanding how the body interacts with the brain at different stages of life. It is the very program responsible for training many of the top professionals today!

Working with some of the most experienced golf professionals in the state, children learn how to blend time proven development techniques with golf fundamentals. The venue includes up to 12 stations in a FUNdamental Cyclone Zone or a S.M.A.S.H. Zone. The FUNdamental Cyclone is focuses on the body’s fundamental movement skills while S.M.A.S.H. – Stability, Mobility, ABCs (Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed), Sports Skills and Honing Golf Skills – is rigorously designed for youngsters in fifth through ninth grades.

The FUNdamental and S.M.A.S.H. Zones are the program’s core; each has kicking, hitting, throwing, putting, forearm release, chipping and catching stations. In addition, there is a strength-building station and an area where children will begin to learn golf fundamentals in a way their brain and body responds to. While kicking, hitting and throwing provide a seemingly unorthodox approach to golf instruction, all help encourage rotational velocity, which is critical when learning the mechanics of golf. We are teaching the youngsters to become extremely talented athletes in an arena that makes this hour their favorite activity of the week.

The weekly program begins on Tuesday May 1st from 4:00 to 5:30pm and runs through September.    Each week builds on the successes of the previous week in motor learning and golf fundamentals. Lead Instructor:  John Andrews, PGA. Cost $30.00 per session, ages 6 -15.

Parents can sign up their juniors at the Pine Meadow Pro Shop 847.566.4653. For more information on the program, please call John Andrews 847.514.9009.
